HIGHLIGHTS: 2019 GDSC Ramornie Handicap

Welcome to The Daily Examiner's rolling coverage of the GDSC Ramornie Handicap Day!

RACE SEVEN: GDSC Ramornie Handicap (1200 Metres)

Star Boy looked to have the $160,000 Grafton District Services Club Ramornie Handicap rounded up when he bounded clear in the straight before Matt McGillirvay and Havasay stormed late.

Star Boy led until the final centimetres when last year's winner swooped and lunged to a nose victory.

It was one of the closest finishes in recent Ramornie history with a sea of horses finishing within two or three lengths of the first pair. Freddie Fox trot was a  long head away third and Snoopy fourth.

It was back to back wins for both Gold Coast trainer and jockey Matt McGillivray.

"He's a special horse to me," Matt McGillivray said. Helped put me on the map."

TOOWOOMBA gelding Mister Spinks might have been double figure odds but the Kevin Kemp-trained swooped to win today's $30,000 Herb Blanchard Haulage CG&E Class 2 Handicap at Grafton.

The son of Falvelon also overcame a good bump from Western Alliance halfway down the Grafton straight to continue on for a good win at $16 odds. FULL STORY HERE

RACE TWO: Grafton Taxis 6642 3622 Benchmark 66 Showcase Handicap (1400 Metres)

PHOBETOR was the lowest paying horse at Ramornie Day and he delivered on the odds.

The three-year old bay gelding made it look easy as he took an early lead in the 1600m run and didn't look back edging out Proud Captain by over a length.

Gold Coast trainer Michael Costa was happy with the result but never had any doubts over a win.
