Paramedics race to two-car smash on busy road

Emergency services have raced to a two-vehicle crash along a busy road in Maroochydore which caved in the front of one car and sent the other into a footpath.

Paramedics were called to the intersection of Hume St and Maroochydore Rd, Maroochydore about 12.10pm on Friday.

It's understood one person is being assessed and one has been taken to hospital.

Station officer at Maroochydore Fire Brigade, Warren Hunter, said one car ended up on the footpath.

"One of the vehicles blocked traffic and the other was on the footpath sitting over an electrical power box," Mr Hunter said.

"One person was taken to Sunshine Coast University Hospital.

"We are just waiting for Energex to declare the scene safe."
