Which councillors are backing up for re-election?

MOST of the current Clarence Valley Council have indicated they will stand again for the council election on September 10.

The notable omission is deputy mayor Craig Howe, who has announced he won't stand this term after eight years of service, including four terms as deputy mayor.

There has been conjecture the Mayor, Cr Richie Williamson, who said he might stand down from the top job, will again contest the top job.

Six councillors have confirmed they will be standing, with the other two, Jim Simmons and Jason Kingsley also likely to go again.

Cr Richie Williamson, Mayor:

"I will be nominating for the Local Government election on September 10. Strong local representation is required now more than ever. The council has taken strong steps forward over this term.

Cr Andrew Baker:

"I'm going to nominate again. Not sure what else to say. More of the same I expect."

Cr Margaret McKenna:

Will be standing again. She says people intending to nominate should be aware the first council meeting after the election will set the meeting times for the coming year.

Cr Karen Toms:

Has confirmed she will stand again.

Cr Sue Hughes:

Will be running for the Local Government elections and this is why:

"I want to continue the momentum that we have started with the long term sustainability strategies that have been introduced over the past term of council. There are more tough and difficult decisions to be made and I want to see that they are realised and implemented during this next term of council."

Cr Arthur Lysaught:

Said he overcame feelings of frustration before deciding to stand again.

"If you want to bring about change, you have to get involved," he said. "So I've decided to give it one more shot, if the people decide to vote for me."

Cr Lysaught will be travelling overseas from August 8 and will be absent during the election.

Cr Jim Simmons:

Yet to confirm intentions. Has not ruled out running for another term.

Cr Jason Kingsley:

Yet to confirm intentions. Has not ruled out running for another term.
