Man arrested after pursuit - Kempsey
A MAN was arrested this morning at South Kempsey after he allegedly led police on a high-speed pursuit on the Pacific Highway.
Police said the pursuit started when a stolen car was detected in Port Macquarie and failed to stop for officers.
The pursuit proceeded along Hastings River Dr and continued north along the highway, but was terminated near Telegraph Point due to safety concerns.
It is understood the vehicle was clocked driving at speeds of up to 180km/h and police will allege the driver dangerously overtook cars over double white lines.
The car was stopped after highway patrol officers stopped traffic, just south of Kempsey, and deployed road spikes.
Police said the man was arrested in Middleton St and taken into custody, just before 8am.
The driver is understood to have been wanted by police over outstanding warrants.
