UPDATE: Fireys get 'window of opportunity' to tackle blazes

UPDATE 1PM: THE fire at Lanitza continues to burn east and move towards Kungala.

The 4952ha fire is a main focus for fire crews as it is still quite active.

RFS district manager Superintendent Stuart Watts said weather conditions over the next three to four days would give firefighters a "window of opportunity" to contain blazes.

The fire has crossed Parker Rd and is south of The Desert. Crews are working near West Lanitza Rd and Orara Way and south to McGills Rd and the western side of Kungala.

Residents in Parker Road, Citris Drive, The Desert and Perch Road should monitor their properties for spot fires that may arrive ahead of the fire front.

Residents in the area of Sandstone Drive, Blackbutt Road, McGills Road, Kungala Road, the Orara Way should monitor the situation and know what they will do in the event the fire threatens.

For regular updates use the Fires Near Me app or check the RFS website.

The bush fire danger period has commenced today due to the fires blazing since Friday.

Meanwhile, fire crews at the Whiteman Creek fire are "identifying a broader containment strategy" with a large back burning operation expected to commence this afternoon and continuing into the next couple of days.

EARLIER: LOW temperatures overnight and easing winds yesterday gave firefighters a chance to contain blazes around the region but some new fires have ignited.
