BEHOLD the most powerful and quickest SUV ever.
Well, the quickest with a good ol' fashioned internal combustion engine that is.
This is the 527kW and 874Nm 2018 Jeep Grand Cherokee Trackhawk with its supercharged 6.2-litre V8, good for hitting 60mph (97kmh) in just 3.5 seconds and cracking the quarter mile in 11.6 seconds.
Breathtaking figures indeed, not least for a machine weighing over two tonnes, but it still seems the tech nerds have one up on the old school big displacement petrol heads.
Tesla's Model X P100D SUV with ludicrous Mode apparently hits 60mph in just 2.9-seconds thanks to its all-electric dual motors and all wheel drive. But really, the Jeep's going to sound a bit better, isn't it?
No word on whether we'll be seeing any Trackhawks in Australia, but there'll no doubt be an appetite for this monstrously powerful SUV such is our insatiable desire for performance high riders. The model arrives in American Jeep showrooms in the fourth quarter of this year.
The Trackhawk uses an upgraded high-torque capacity TorqueFlite eight-speed auto transmission, while working hard will be the new Brembo big brake kit with yellow calipers tucked behind 20x10-inch Titanium wheels.
The model features Jeep's Quadra-Trac on-demand four-wheel-drive system which includes an electronic limited slip differential, while Launch Control comes as standard too. Well, you'll be wanting to smoke the latest AMG at the traffic lights, won't you?
It's all a bit racy inside too. Nappa leather seats, light black chrome finishes with dashes of carbon fibre, a 200mph speedometer, performance timers and gauge readouts through an 8.4-inch screen and a flat-bottomed steering wheel with paddle shifters.
The current 6.4-litre Jeep Grand Cherokee SRT sells in Australia for $90,000, so should the Trackhawk make its way Down Under we could expect it to cost well into six figures.
That would still make it cheaper than a lot of premium sports cars - plus it would be faster - and a damn sight cheaper than a Tesla Model X with Ludicrous mode.
