Hyundai to build pint-size and big daddy SUVs

WORK has begun to expand Hyundai's sports utility vehicle range.

Hyundai Motor Company vice chairman Euisan Chung said at today's global unveiling of the compact Kona SUV that two more high-riding offerings are in the pipeline.

By 2020 the South Korean company expects to launch an even smaller SUV than the Kona (similar size to the Mazda CX-3 and the Toyota C-HR).

Another larger SUV is also being developed. The biggest vehicle currently available is the Santa Fe, but stepping up a size would see a rival to premium models such as the Range Rover or Mercedes-Benz G-Class, as well as the Toyota LandCruiser.

Also being developed are electric and fuel cell electric offerings.

Mass production of Kona electric vehicle is planned to start next year. One charge is expected to provide a range of more than 390km from one charge.

Hyundai Kona launched for 2017: Hyundai has revealed the Kona small SUV ahead of its Australian arrival in October.
