Motorcyclist dies after crash at Whiporie
UPDATE, 11.30am: THE motorcyclist in his 50s involved in a collision on Summerland Way near Whiporie has died at Gold Coast University Hospital.
The man lost part of his right arm and right leg as a result of the crash with a Sedan 37km south of Casino yesterday afternoon.
He also sustained significant head injuries.
Richmond Local Area Command Acting Inspector Russell Ewing said police were called to the scene just after 2pm.
"The rider was travelling south on Summerland Way," he said.
"He then collided with another vehicle travelling in the opposite direction. After hitting the vehicle the rider has slid along the road for about 100 metres, and suffered those injuries."
Westpac Lifesaver Helicopter arrived on scene around 3pm and airlifted the man to Gold Coast University Hospital.
The driver of the Sedan was taken to Casino Hospital for mandatory blood and urine testing.
The results of the tests are unknown at this stage.
UPDATE MONDAY: A MOTORBIKE rider lost part of his right arm and his right leg after a crash near Whiporie yesterday afternoon.
The man, believed to be in his 50s, last night remained in a critical condition after being injured when his motorbike and another vehicle collided on Summerland Way at Whiporie, between Casino and Grafton.
A NSW Ambulance spokesperson said emergency services were called to the scene at 2pm.
The man was treated at the scene for significant head, arm and leg injuries before being airlifted to the Gold Coast Hospital.
The Westpac Life Saver Rescue Helicopter landed at the site just after 3pm.
A Westpac Life Saver Rescue Helicopter spokesman said due to the weather conditions, the helicopter would fly low via the coastline.
Summerland Way was closed in both directions following the crash.
UPDATE 8pm: Summerland Way has reopened in both directions between Grafton and Casino following an earlier car and motorcycle accident at Whiporie.
All lanes of Summerland Way had been closed while emergency services and traffic crews attended the scene.
Traffic conditions have now returned to normal.

It is believed the collision happened about 2pm, although further details are limited at this stage.
Motorists are advised to avoid the area while emergency services and traffic crews respond.
Northbound traffic is being diverted at Grafton, and southbound traffic is being diverted at Casino.
Motorists travelling between Grafton and Casino can use the Pacific Hwy and the Bruxner Hwy instead.
