UPDATE: Bushfire breaks out near school

A collaborative effort from Fire and Rescue and the Rural Fire Service has resulted in the control of a bushfire which broke out on 22 Carrs Drive, Yamba this afternoon. 

Yamba Fire and Rescue acting captain Michael Brooks said a number of trucks were involved to ensure the safety of nearby residents after responding to the incident at approximately 12.29pm.

"We had a Yamba truck doing property protection at Carrs Drive and a Maclean truck providing property protection on Palm Cove Resort," he said.

"The fire is about 400 metres by 400 metres and is under control.

"Four RFS trucks are in the actual bush working on the fire."

Police are also on the scene carrying out traffic control operations near St. James Primary School.

Mr Brooks said the fire was not deliberately lit, but the cause has yet to be confirmed. 

EARLIER

A NUMBER of Rural Fire Service and Fire and Rescue crews have been tasked to an out-of-control bushfire reportedly burning at Carrs Drive, Yamba. 

The alarm was raised after 12.00pm but it is not yet known if any property or how the fire started. 

A fire and rescue truck has been stationed across the river at Oyster Cove as a precaution.

At this stage, it is understood students at St. James Primary School are not in any danger due to the wind blowing the fire in the opposite direction to the premises.
