TRAGIC: Pedestrian killed on Pacific Motorway

UPDATE 5PM:

INVESTIGATIONS are continuing into the cause of the accident which claimed the life of a middle-aged man this morning.

Tweed Byron Police District acting superintendent Detective Inspector Brendon Cullen said all tragedies were traumatic for families, the community and innocent parties involved.

"We plead for caution when you are in your cars, we are not saying this instance is the fault of a driver or the pedestrian but even pedestrians need to treat motor vehicles with caution," he said.

"Its tough for emergency services who have to respond to a particularly gruesome scene.

"We don't want anyone to pass away under these circumstances."

Police appealed for anyone with information about the crash or dashcam footage to come forward.

UPDATE 1.30PM:

The north-bound lane on the Pacific Mwy has re-opened.
